We’re looking for dedicated volunteers to help us build support against mining in Palawan. Through social media tools like Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Social Networks and blogs, you’ll have a direct impact in our campaign to reach 10 million signatures through our online and offline petitions. All volunteers will be listed as a team member on our website with link to your blog if applicable.
Successful volunteers will be experienced with these social media tools and be passionate about using them to save one of the Philippines most important natural resources.
We’re looking for innovative volunteers who can:
- Provide some of the volunteer time on-site at the ABS-CBN foundation offices
- Blog from home and other off-site locations as well
- Help develop, organize and execute plans to build awareness through social media
- Write original blog posts as well as find and comment on related content
- Think of innovative ways to use social media for the cause
- Be passionate about the environment and our cause
Requirements
- College/university degree or be a currently enrolled student
- Basic knowledge of how to blog, use Facebook, MySpace, Youtube and Twitter OR be a fast learner.
- Experience with social media, online content creation, marketing communications, guerrilla marketing tactics, community sponsorships, event planning, etc.
- Strong writing and communication skills
- Flexible hours (some evening and/or weekend work may be required)
- Experience with blogging on WordPress a big plus.

I would like to volunteer No 2mining in Palawan by contacting all my friends and family here in the UK and in the Philippines. As all of my family are originated in Palawan. and as far as we are concerned to see the damage of the environment, natural resources, mountains, plants, animals, to the whole area of part of the Philippines. It is really sad to see that our land very badly damaged and we don’t want that to happen to Palawan, we have to unite to stop miners destroying the beauty of Palawan as we are also concerned about the habitat of the indigenous people to have a clean water, fresh air that comes from the trees which provide oxygen to help people to breathe as well as all kinds of animals and plants that need fresh air. So please! we have to unite Say no2 mining in Palawan to stop miners destroying our land.

Mahirap harapin ang galit ng kalikasan dahil sa kapabayaan ng pangangalaga sa kalikasan. Kung dati ay pang-poster lang ang usapin ng climate change ngayon ay mismong nangyayari na sa ating harapan. Hihintayin ba natin na mabura ang palawan sa mapa ng pilipinas? O dapat ang mawala ay ang may mga masamang balakin sa inang kalikasan. Nowadays, fun run is a big hit in our country. Lets organize a fun run or run for a cause event for the NO TO MINING IN PALAWAN SIGNATURE CAMPAIGN. Lets find sponsors for this event, then runners have to sign first at the signature form before joining the said event. Much like RUN for PASIG event.

Mining has always been a present since before. It is the basic way or form of getting minerals and other objects underground. It is not actually bad since we get our furniture, materials and wealth from there. It also attracts investors from other countries. The problem only is that it is “Over-Mining” if there is any word such as that and also the improper procedure and materials when mining. But we should stop mining already or at least lessen and regulate it. If we continue mining, all our resources will be lost. We will lack mineral/ underground resources. Mining kills a lot of living things including people, like what happened in the spilling of mercury in Boac River. A lot died and currently a lot is still infected with the internal sickness. The environment is also affected, we remove nutrients from the soil and we need to destroy the surface before we can mine. Especially in Palawan, our province is in Palawan. Palawan is such a beautiful place because that place, you can experience nature. Among the regions or provinces in the Philippnes, Palawan is the richest, not in wealth or economy but nature and environment. It is the last places where we can experience nature. Sadly, Puerto Princessa is an urban city already. So our family built two houses for our families in there but far from Puerto Princessa. Tourists from other countries visit Palawan. And even people from Metro Manila go to Palawan just to experience nature. We travel 1 hour going to Puerto Princessa but Puerto Princessa is not filled with nature anymore. We need to travel 6-7 more hours on a rocky and dusty road just to reach our province where there is really nature. We own a land in there, everything is free. Swim anytime, eat anytime as long as you fish and everything is free. We have an open lot filled with trees, we even have Narras and lots of them (last checked 3-5 years ago) but last summer, our family visited and the biggest Narra tree we have is not there anymore. 3-5 years ago, Palawan is filled with green mountains but now either they’re naked or they’re not yet there no more. Palawan is our pride, it is one of the last places with the abundant environment and nature. If we continue using its last resources especially mining, I am afraid that Palawan won’t last long. Everybody can help, from young to old. Let us all save Palawan now. If not now, when? If not you, who? Mabuhay Philippines

What is mining? Mining is the process of working in mines and a process of extracting minerals form the ground.
How does it affect us … by “us” I’m talking about the Filipino people. Though mining may have positive effects it also has several negative effects on our country, mostly on country’s environment. Some of these effects are … deforestation, soil erosion, air pollution and many more. With these effects come more effects such as the the elimination of certain species due to deforestation, the landslides and deaths of miners which occur due to the use of backwards technology of companies which do not wish to pay a large tax for bringing modern and safe equipment. What can you do? What can we do? Is mining still “okay” ?
We can help save the environment from mining through putting up sites such as this. We can use petitions to help sway the Philippine government to stop mining in certain places such as Palawan which is one of the richest in species of animals, flora, fauna and etc. You see ,there are many ways to help save Palawan or any other place which is being threatened by mining or …. but the question is will you take part in the mission of preserving our countries resources and for the generation to come. So I urge you to take part in the mission and save Palawan ! <(")

Let me tell you my viewpoint on the issue of mining in palawan. A good effect is that more jobs will become available thus reducing the unemployment rate. Foreign investors will become interested and invest in us. Our economy might be lifted. A bad effect is the destruction of a rich land filled with biodiversity. My soc sci teacher said that our country has the most biodiversity per sqm. Our mining technology is as old as WW2 so the issue of our miner’s safety is in question. We might destroy a tourist spot (Undergroungd caves) if mining is approve in palawan. Soil depletion, soil erosion are possibilities if mining is allowed. If mining is allowed in palawan where else will they allow mining? this is just my opinion. The final decision lies with the gov’t. They must think of the long-term effects mining may have in not only in palawan but the effects it has on our country. The actions they do must be for the good of our country. If they chose to allow mining in palawan, they must give just reason same goes if they forbid mining inpalawan
NO TO MINING IN PALAWAN!!! Palawan is one of the only natural places left in our country and we have to continue to protect it. Mining will just make it worse because some processes will have to occur. This is not good for us anymore because almost every place in the Philippines have undergone different processes already.
I have already been to Palawan and have seen all its beauties. All the mountains looked so beautiful and primitive. I definitely wouldn’t want to change that. If you ever get the chance to go to Palawan, wouldn’t you like to see these mountains as well? Sadly, mining companies want to destroy these “beauties” by mining them and taking their treasures. God made these places and we’re just destroying them. That’s why we have global warming. Let’s continue to protect these places especially the mountains of Palawan!

However I could not make it to the on-site gatherings and meetings in the ABS-CBN building because I have a 5 year old daughter to attend to 24/7. Can i just be a volunteer online?
